sketchbook

Gouache painting

As I have heaps of sketchbooks I thought I might fill them all before I buy more. I
I recently discovered gouache, why I haven't been painting with this medium before now I don't know, I'm loving it. This series is called "Reflectionpainted mostly from photos taken on my iphone of a lake near where I live. Every day I walk around this lake it looks different depending on the weather, I particularly like grey and cloudy skies they're are so much more interesting to paint.

Tools of the trade

sticks are a useful tool for my mark making, for the really delicate marks I use a magpie feather, which I fashioned into a tiny brush.

Tasmania

Tasmania
My recent trip to Tasmania the winter of 2013 was fantastic. We had great snow every day while in Cradle Mountain a place I will go back to many times if possible. This is our 2nd trip this time we stayed in Cradle for 6 nights. This allowed me to do a lot of drawing and these paintings below are the result.

Tregeagle. oil on canvas near Lismore, northern NSW, Australia. Mostly I paint in oil, however sometimes I paint in acrylic  on paper for quick sketches painted on site, also do drawings and take photographs, which are then further developed into paintings in my studio.
